Sierra
Testing Laboratories, Inc. is a leader in the testing and modeling of
contaminate remediation through bench scale treatability studies. Our
extensive background in the creation and testing of soil stabilization
material as per ASTM and API test standards makes the institution of treatability
analysis possible. Creating a turn key engineered mix design that remediates
the site as well as meeting the pump ability requirements is essential
in a treatability study. We specialize in the laboratory modeling the
stabilization agent through the process of grout plant creation, grout
injection or mixing. Through these processes we have the ability to retrieve
soil and air samples in order to monitor the treatment application and
its effectiveness. |

Clifton
MGP Site – Operational Units 1 and 2 Staten Island, New York, Project Description: Keyspan Energy’s Clifton facility stored manufactured gas byproducts including coal tar which contaminated the site soils and threatened to contaminate the surrounding residential area. Proposed stabilization relied on the use of jet grouting technology in order to provide a barrier to prevent contaminate travel within the subsurface soils. Design: Sierra Testing Laboratories, Inc. (Sierra) was contracted in order to develop a jet grout mix design that would maintain stability of performance while exposed to high levels of contaminates yet having a low heat of hydration to ensure the contaminates present would not volatilize. Testing included: Hydraulic Conductivity (ASTM D 5084), Unconfined Compression (ASTM D4832 & C109), various chemical analyses (EPA Methods) and Mix Design Calorimeter Testing. Construction: Sierra was also contracted for field testing and data collection to verify constructability utilizing the mix design developed as part of a field trial and test section. Testing included: Hydraulic Conductivity (ASTM D 5084), Unconfined Compression (ASTM D4832 & C109), various chemical analyses (EPA Methods) and Mix Design Calorimeter Testing. |
